Basics of Aura Reading

auraOpinions vary on the validity of the aura, and there is often a great deal of skepticism regarding aura reading and interpretation.  MSN Encarta defines aura diagnosis as, “a force that is said to surround all people and objects, discernible, often as a bright glow, only to people of unusual psychic sensitivity”.[1] Some people are able to read auras as a result of migraines or eye fatigue.[2] Jack Schwarz was able to successfully demonstrate his ability to read the aura of a person by using his heightened vision to perceive light beyond the visible to the visible spectrum.[3] There are many different meanings and ways to interpret your aura.  Generally, you will have two aura colors that are the most pronounced and prominent.  The information I will present will make it seem as if these are your aura colors all of the time.  While they will be your aura colors most of the time, it will also change based on various conditions.  Think of your aura as a giant mood ring.  It will change in shape, size, position relative to your body, and color as your mood changes.  It is believed that even different shades of the same color do not necessarily mean the same thing.

The popular view is that there are seven layers to the aura.[4][5] Each layer corresponds with different aspects of yourself and each layer extends a little farther from you than the previous one.  They are as follows:

The First Layer: The Etheric Body.  It relates to the health, survival and security of our body.  If there are signs of illness and injury, they will be evident in this layer.[4][5][6] The etheric layer is closest to the body.  Generally, it extends from 1/4 of an inch to two inches from the body[4] and is approximately half an inch wide (1.3 cms).[6] It usually appears to visual sight as a light blue or gray light or haze near the skin, and is the easiest layer to see.  Its’ vibrancy indicates strong or weak health.[4][5] This layer is primarily connected to the Base or Root chakra. This field can also be seen around trees, plants, animals and even inanimate objects such as furniture. [6]

The Second Layer: The Emotional Body. This layer relates to our emotions and boundaries. It is often seen as a swirling mass of energy around the body. The form resembles the human shape but is fuzzier and less defined than the etheric layer.[4] It is located one to three inches from the physical body and is associated with the Sacral Chakra. The emotions generated from this layer enter the Etheric body and then the physical one.[4] This is why some people have headaches based upon their mood. It contains, when healthy, beautiful, bright blobs of energy and color. These primary colors are emitted as the emotions change.[6]

The Third Layer: The Mental Body. This layer relates to our basic beliefs and our intellect.[4] This is the layer of thought and ideas.  This layer is usually most visible around the head and shoulders as a yellow glow. [6] This layer extends three to eight inches from the body and is associated with the Solar Plexus Chakra.  This auric field deals with rational thought, our thoughts create our reality.[4]

The Fourth Layer: The Astral Layer marks the division between the physical layers and the higher layers. This layer is responsible for interaction between people. It is the layer of love and of relationships with others and ourselves.[6] It extends six inches to one foot from the body and is associated with the Heart Chakra.[4] When healthy, it is full of pastel colors such as pinks and blues. [6] This layer connects the lower layers with the higher layers and healing energy is monitored by this layer. [7]

The Fifth Layer:  Etheric Template, this is where the descriptions begin to become more ill-defined. This body is a copy of the body, personality and identity on a higher level, the astral plane.[4] This layer is found one and half to two feet from the body and is associated with the Heart Chakra.[4] The Etheric Template is an x-ray or blueprint of the physical body. Illness or blocks can be observed and treated in this field and this is relayed to the physical body. This field is connected to the throat chakra. It is usually observed as gray or blue in color.[6]

The Sixth Layer: The Celestial body is the container of emotions on the spiritual plane. It is the layer to group consciousness, clairvoyance, and it is the level of unconditional love.[4] It extends two to two and three-fourths feet[6] (90 cms.) from the body. It is connected to the Third Eye chakra and is filled with mother of pearl colors and energies. It is the layer through which you can experience spiritual ecstasy.[6]

The Seventh Layer: The Ketheric Template is the mental layer of the spiritual level. This is our spiritual template. Through this layer we become one with the Universe.[4] The Ketheric Template is connected to the crown chakra and is a type of photographic negative of the mental and spiritual aspects of the person. It is usually filled with golden shimmering light and is surrounded by a gold or silver halo or outer rim of protection.[6] It extends two to three and half feet from the body. [4]

Two other views are that there are only three layers to the aura, the same layers as I have described above and that there are as many as 12 layers to the aura.  The first seven layers are the same as those stated above, the additional five layers are the Memory body, the Soul body, the Integrative body, the Eternal body, and the Universal body.[7]

The Eighth Layer: The Memory body, also referred to as The White Zone, it is connected with the crown of the head. This layer records our past, present and future karmic memories and interfaces with the Akashic records.

The Ninth Layer: The Soul body associated with the planes of existence between the worlds of Heaven and Now. The Soul Body connects with our “oneness” and the Divine order of our pre-destined soul contracts.

The Tenth Layer: The Integrative body serves as a pathway between the physical and spiritual.  This layer is also known as the “Dream body” which is able to separate itself from the physical body and enter into the astral realm. It is here we access data from our genetic and soul heritage and the imprint of our soul purpose.

The Eleventh Layer: The Eternal body this is the layer which we are transformed into our Light Bodies in preparation for Ascension.

The Twelfth Layer: The Universal body is pure Divine Consciousness and serves as a connection to the Divine Mind, the Ascended Masters, and is associated with unconditional love within and without.  This is similar to the eastern concept of Nirvana.

There are several colors for an aura.  The ones I have chosen to present are black, blue, brown, cystal,  green, indigo, orange, pink, purple (and violet), red, tan, white, yellow (and gold)[8][9].  I have chosen these because they are the most common colors.  Note that can be very difficult to see an aura, and often the aura can be felt much more easily.  Perhaps that is why we sometimes meet people we just plain do not like before we even talk to them?

BLACK

Black is perhaps the most misunderstood color of the aura. It is not a sign of death, nor is it especially negative. It is not a bad thing to have black in the aura. Black is the color of protection and shielding. It may also indicate that secrets are being kept. Black can also, when paired with another color, indicate an imbalance of the body. The color and location will tell you more about an imbalance. If it appears along the edge, it can indicate holes in the auric field.

BLUE

People with blue in their auras are said to be sensitive, loving and nurturing, very expressive, and relationship-focused. They put others before themselves. Blue in the aura represents calm, truthfulness, and seriousness. Blue can be indicative of telepathy and clairaudience. Blues (people with a dominance of blue in their auras) are emotionally driven and prone to crying easily. People are always turning to Blues for comfort and counsel because Blues will always be there for them. The deeper shades of blue reflect levels of devotion and a life-long quest for the Divine. They can indicate melancholy, rushing and worrying, domineering tendencies, fearfulness, forgetfulness, and oversensitivity. Soft blue indicates peacefulness, clarity, and communication, along with truthfulness, an active imagination, and good intuition Bright royal blue shows clairvoyance, a highly spiritual nature, and generosity. It can mean that a person is on the right path. This color can also indicate that new opportunities are coming. Dark or muddy blue indicates fear — fear of the future, fear of self-expression, fear of facing or speaking the truth, etc. It can reflect blocked perceptions.

BROWN

Browns are earthy. Brown often appears in the auric field; although many people think of as reflecting a lack of energy or an imbalance, this is not always so. When it appears in the aura, especially in areas above the head and around the feet, it can reflect new growth. It indicates establishing new roots and a desire to accomplish things. It is a color that can reflect industry and organization.

CRYSTAL

People with whose aura is crystal do not actually have an aura color as their aura reflects all the colors, thus being like a chameleon. Crystal is a rare Life Color. Like chameleons, their auras will change colors to match those of the people they are connecting with at the time. They then take on the characteristics, behavior patterns, emotions, and thoughts of that color. They are very skilled at healing, but can only heal one person at a time because they take on each person’s characteristics.

GREEN

Greens are typically very quick thinkers. They prefer to develop the idea, organize a plan of action, and leave the details for others to manage. Greens are capable of processing information almost instantaneously. They prefer to skip the steps between the beginning and the end. Greens excel at business, because they are organized and efficient. Greens love to make lists and they recognize patterns quite easily. If you need something achieved, Greens will be the ones to do it. They are the “movers and shakers.” Greens are very competitive, enjoy taking risks, and can be highly argumentative. Don’t expect to win a fight with a Green! They rarely lose. Bright emerald green indicates a healer, or possibly a love-centered person Yellow-Greens are creative with matters of the heart, and communicative. Dark or muddy forest green indicates jealousy, resentment, feeling like a victim of the world (martyrdom), a tendency to cast blame (on self or others), insecurity and low self-esteem, lack of personal responsibility, and a sensitivity to perceived criticism.

INDIGO

Indigos are a rare color indeed. This is the reason Indigo Children are so named because their auras are this distinctive color. Indigos are very independent and have little to no respect for authority figures. They are strong-willed, highly intuitive and psychic, and will tell you about what you are thinking whether you want them to or not. Indigos are very clear about who they are and what they are here to do. Don’t try to make them something they aren’t, because they won’t go along with it at all. An unusual characteristic of Indigos is that they frequently appear androgynous. It is often difficult to tell if Indigos are male or female; however, this is not an issue for an Indigo. An Indigo’s primary concern is his or her spiritually.

ORANGE

Oranges are always pushing the limits regarding physical danger. They love to challenge themselves and to go beyond the accepted physical limits. Oranges have no problem putting their lives on the line. They love the adrenaline rush they get from being from being daredevils. It isn’t a “day as usual” unless they’ve faced death. For Oranges, thrills, cunning skill, and excitement are the essentials in life. Everything else is just passive existence. Oranges are very impulsive and have a lot of stamina. Courage, joy, and social behavior are good indicators of an orange aura. Depending on the shade, it can also indicate emotional imbalances and agitation. Some of the muddier shades of orange can reflect pride and flamboyance. Orange-Yellow indicates creativity and intelligence. These people are detail oriented, perfectionist, and scientific.

PURPLE/VIOLET

Violet and Purple Violets are sent here to help save the planet. Most Violets feel drawn to educate the masses, to inspire higher ideals, to improve the quality of life on the planet, or to help save people, animals and the environment. Violets have an inner sense that they are here to do something important, that their destiny is greater than that of the average person. Many Violets become leaders and teachers, while other Violets prefer to reach people through music, film or other art form. Violet is the color of warmth. It is the color for the blending of the heart and the mind, the physical with the spiritual. It reflects independence and intuition, as well as dynamic and important dream activity. It can reflect one who is searching. The purple shades often reflect an ability to handle affairs with practicality and worldliness. The paler and lighter shades of violet and purple can reflect humility and spirituality. The red-purple shades can indicate great passion and strength of will.

RED

Red is the color of strong energy, fire, and primal creative force. It is the life-promoting energy. It can indicate strong passion, mind and will. It is a dynamic color that can reflect anger, love, hate, and unexpected changes. Reds live very much in the here and now. To a Red, the only world that exists is the physical world. Reds require proof and can’t be bothered to think abstractly. Reds enjoy life very much. They are in touch with themselves. Reds are extremely passionate people and have a zest for life. A bright red aura can indicate a healthy ego. Dark red may symbolize one who has a quick temper and is nervous or impulsive. Too much red, or a muddy hue, can reflect over-stimulation, inflammation, or imbalance. It may reflect nervousness, temper, aggression, impulsiveness, or excitement. Deep Reds are grounded, realistic, active, have strong will-power, and are survival-oriented. Muddied red indicates anger (repelling). Clear red is a sign of a powerful, energetic, competitive, sexual, and/or passionate individual. Pink can reflect joy and comfort and a strong sense of companionship. When seen in the aura, it can indicate the quiet, modest individual, along with a love of art and beauty. Depending on the shade of pink, it can also reflect an immaturity, especially the muddier shades. It can reflect truthfulness or a lack of it. It can also reflect times of new love and new vision. Pink (bright and light) is loving, tender, sensitive, sensual, artistic, affectionate, pure, compassionate; also may indicate a new or revived romantic relationship. Dark and murky pink indicates an immature and/or dishonest nature. Orange-Red denotes confidence and creative power.

TAN

Tans are logical, sequential, thoughtful, and crave stability. There are four types of Tans: abstract, environmental, logical and sensitive. Each type of Tan can be identified by the color of ring around the tan. Abstract Tans are open, friendly and outgoing. They have incredibly optimistic personalities. Though they frequently have high energy, it is also usually scattered. They tend to go in many directions at once. They are bright and curious. The Environmental Tan has a deeply tan-colored band layered with a forest-green-colored band. Environmental Tans prefer structure and discipline. They can sense the exact distance from one side of a room to the other just by looking at it, as well as measure the weight of something by holding it in their palm. Environmental Tans relate both kinesthetically and mentally to their environment. The Logical Tan has a light tan-colored band that encircles the body and is usually kept tightly drawn to it. This reflects the Logical Tans’ tendency to keep their feelings and thoughts to themselves. Logical Tans are logically analytical, as the name indicates. They choose to process every step. Their method of processing cannot be rushed. They need to analyze and comprehend the logic in each step before proceeding to the next. Sensitive Tans are more emotional and intuitive than Logical Tans, but they still tend to keep their feelings to themselves. Their auras are a combination of a light tan color with a light blue band next to it that encircles the body. Their personalities are a subtle combination of the mental Tan qualities and the emotional Blue qualities. Sensitive Tans combine the characteristics of analytical logic with intuitive compassion. These gentle personalities are quiet, sensitive, and supportive.

WHITE

White often appears in conjunction with other colors in the aura. When white stands out as a dominant color in the aura, it reflects truth and purity. It indicates that the energy of the individual is cleansing and purifying itself. It often reflects an awakening of greater creativity, as well. White can indicate a new energy that is undesignated in the aura. As with the white wedding dress, a clear presence of white indicates purity. White sparkles or flashes of white light can indicate that a woman is pregnant or will be soon. White (Cloudy) can denote New Age or religious energy, an individual lacking consciousness, a cover-up, denial, and/or being ‘good’ at expense of being ‘whole.’ White (Clear Light) indicates a very high spiritual vibration, or a person who is godly, close to the divine, inspired, who sees the spiritual big picture, and/or is compassionate.

GOLD

Gold is a color that reflects dynamic spiritual energy. It reflects the higher energies of devotion and great inspiration. It indicates a time of revitalizing. Muddier shades of gold can indicate the person is still in the process of awakening higher inspiration and has not clarified it yet within his/her life. It reflects the alchemical process still being active, i.e. the person is still working to turn the lead of his/her life into gold. This is the color of enlightenment and divine protection. When seen within the aura, it says that the person is being guided by their highest good. It is divine guidance.

YELLOW

Yellows are typically playful and social. Their focus is the enjoyment of the group. Yellows can be shy and sensitive as well. They are the most fun-loving, free-spirited, energetic, and childlike personalities of the aura spectrum. These playful characters have a great sense of humor. They love to laugh and to make others laugh. They like to live life freely and spontaneously. Yellows remind people to not take themselves or their problems too seriously. Yellow can reflect new learning opportunities, lightness, wisdom and intellect, like the light bulb “Aha!” moment. Yellow is a color that represents the power of ideas, awakening psychic abilities and clairsentience. Pale yellow around the hairline can indicate optimism. The more pastel shades often reflect wisdom, intellect, and enthusiasm. A golden yellow means that the person takes care of him/herself or is a highly advanced individual with psychic abilities. Darker yellows may represent shyness. Bright lemon-yellow indicates struggling to maintain power and control in a personal or business relationship, or a fear of losing control, prestige, respect, and/or power. Dark brownish yellow or gold can mean a student or one who is straining at studying, a person who is overly analytical to the point of feeling fatigued or stressed, or someone who’s trying to make up for lost time by learning everything all at once. Deeper and muddier shades of yellow can reflect excessive thinking and analyzing. They can reflect being overly critical, a feeling of being deprived of recognition, and/or dogmatic beliefs.

Please remember that the meaning of any particular color is more a guideline than a rule. Some aspects of a color’s meaning will resonate more with you than other aspects. It’s only natural. Think of it like buying a pair of pants: you want these pants fit in the waist, thighs, legs and across your hips. Unless you happen to be graced with the perfect lower torso, they will not fit equally as well in all locations. Aura color meanings are like that. You look for what fits and go from there.
