The Hanged Man

The Hanged Man symbolizes the willingness to be self-sacrificing.  This card represents taking a step back and letting others lead themselves.  The Hanged Man is classically associated with sages and those contemplating the way to a more fulfilling spiritual life.  This card represents being in harmony with all the aspects of ourselves.  Pisceans are also associated with The Hanged Man because those under this sign understand the value of letting go of the old in order to gain what is desired in the new.

Upright:  The Hanged Man is about accepting the situation we find ourselves in at the present time.  Only with acceptance can growth and fulfillment come forward.  This card is about letting go of what worries us and trusting in what happens next.  The Hanged Man is unconcerned with trivial daily matters.  This card can indicate the development of psychic ability.  The Hanged Man is open to any and all ideas and philosophies.  Only by being open can we hope to grow and change.  We are ready for whatever may be coming next.  Think about what must be let go in order to move forward and onto the next phase of the journey because The Hanged Man indicates that now is the time for change!

Reversed:  The Hanged Man is unwilling to accept what is coming anyway.  This card indicates that we are stuck in the past and have fears of the future.  The Hanged Man reversed is reluctant to let go of what was.  We have in the past changed the core of our consciousness.  We are not the same person we once were nor do we have the same goals, ambitions, or ideals.  The change has happened; we are already a different person.  It is okay for us to accept this new self; we need not fear what we have become.  Disillusionment and hesitation are indicators of The Hanged Man; reversed.  The Hanged Man, when reversed, can represent a resistance to teachings or lessons intended to help; especially spiritual ones.  It is important to remember that The Hanged Man is only immobile for as long as these conditions are present.  Upon accepting the internal power we all have to transform ourselves, The Hanged Man can become mobile once more!
